The Technical Goat (Heats) and Fun Run
This may be our favorite to date! This race is all about taking us out of our comfort zone and testing our technical skills with multiple buoy turns. This race also introduces us to a newer format of heat racing that requires managing your energy throughout the morning. This 1K course contains 6 buoy turns with a beach flag turnaround in the middle of the course. Paddlers will go head-to-head over 3-4 heats to win it all. This is a beach start and running beach finish.
This race location offers great views for spectators to cheer you on throughout the entire race.
For the less crazy racers out there and/or 1st timers, please sign up for the Technical Fun Run! The Fun Run is a great way to get introduced to the sport with very little pressure. You will paddle against other competitors who are out there to have fun with friends', family and kids. The Fun Run will consist of 1-2 heats of 1 lap through the course.
$1,700 cash purse for top 3 male and female paddlers of this race!

The Goat Island 5K & 10K Grind plus Fun Run
The 10K for 2025! Distance, technical navigation skills, a beautiful variety of water and wind conditions. Race begins at Windjammer Park with a beach start. 50 yards out to your first 90-degree right hand buoy turn. Make a counterclockwise turn around Windjammer Island and watch out for the shallow shore on the backside! Cut diagonal across the main channel where wind and boat waves may be at their best. Upon reaching the far shore you are required to stay on the outside of the buoy and begin your 2-mile trek following shoreline coves into Big Allison. Halfway through your race you will make a left hand 180 degree turn around the large Goat Boater Buoy making your way back. On your way back you will take a different path veering further south to Goat Island. Make a counterclockwise turn around the outside of the Island and back to the buoy on the West side of the main channel. When you hit this buoy, you make your last 90-degree right hand turn to sprint across the main channel through the PuckerButt Pepper Company Shark Finish Line for a sandy beach finish with paddle in hand!
$1,700 cash purse for top 3 male and female paddlers!
The Goat Island 5K for 2025! This race is the perfect combo of medium distance and a smidge of technicality to round out the weekend. Beach start/beach finish, a few buoys to add in your tech skills and two islands to navigate around. Add in the main channel for some wind and chop and you have yourself a battle! Michael Booth set a course record, let's see what you can do in 2025!
Awards for top 3 male and female paddlers!
The 1-mile Windjammer Fun Run will be 1 lap around Windjammer Island and back to the beach. This is a great course for having fun with friends and/or getting your feet wet in your first race. Spectators and family will be able to see all the action for the 1K run. All are welcome and encouraged to sign up with your family and kids!

Windjammer Park offers a sandy beach, playground area and great views for you and your family to watch the race and enjoy some beautiful views of Lake Wylie.
The Goat Boater Races are unique in many ways. Most notably our 1-mile social paddle directly after the race for all paddlers and guests.
Testimonial: "Full disclaimer- I am 62 this is only my second year of racing, and I get severe pre-race pre meeting new people jitters. I participated in the Goat Boater Race series 2021- Megan and Rob embrace the spirit of SUP- all who come are welcome - these values are also evident in their race team. There were so many different participants from elite athletes to families tandem racing, to people new to the sport and/ or racing. It is fun- serious fun during the race- but fun. The racers cheer each other on - even to the last one coming in - I could feel the positive energy of the group. There is a social paddle after the race - a fun way to get to know each other - get tips- and try other equipment out. Megan and Rob are very knowledgeable and can help you navigate the different board types if you are ready to move to a race board (or new race board), Race conditions are closely monitored, there are plenty of safety lookouts so those new to paddling in moving water can feel well protected. There is clear communication to participants which I appreciate pre-race day and prior to the race start. If one is an experienced SUP racer or a novice there is a place for all in the Goat Boater Series."
