The World Paddle Association-sanctioned event has multiple divisions including a grueling 22.5-mile race around Absecon Island, an 8-mile competitive race and two social paddles going eight and four miles through the back bays of Atlantic City.

Mens Open Prone 
Mens 14' and under SUP
Womens Open Prone 
Womens 14' and under SUP


1st = $800

2nd= $350

3rd= $150

Surf Ski Single
This year we will be awarding trophies to the top three overall Surf Ski competitors, this is a break from our past tradition and prize money of $250, $150, $100 will be offered for first, second and third place finishers.

Outrigger Canoe OC-1
This year we will be awarding trophies to the top three overall OC-1 competitors, this is also a new addition for 2019 and prize money of $250, $150, $100 will be offered for first, second and third place finishers, respectively.

8-mile Race
This year we will be awarding trophies to the top three overall 8-mile race finishers. No prize money will be offered, but bragging rights will be awarded for one calendar year.

Open Division
Kayaks, Lifeguard boats and anything else you can paddle. Trophies will be awarded to open paddlers depending on the number of registrations received in the open category.

Please allow the faster racers to start first. Anyone in the open division not on an SUP or prone must start behind the racers.  Thank you for your understanding.


Event Details:
The 22.5-mile paddle around Absecon Island pits racers against one another to raise money for cancer while experiencing breathtaking views of the world-famous Atlantic City Boardwalk, Lucy the Elephant and our beautiful back bays.

The eight-mile and four-mile fun paddles are social experiences designed to help expand paddling sports in South Jersey.  Paddlers will navigate a bay-only course to the Wonder Bar on Albany Ave. in Atlantic City. Return transportation will be provided for 4-mile paddlers.

Registration is now open for all paddle divisions. Paddlers are required to raise a minimum of $200 prior to entry. Click here to create your fundraising page. The open division welcomes outrigger canoes, kayaks, surf skis and teams of paddlers. See thedrcf.org for information. 

The event was founded in 2008 by Mike May and he designed the course to challenge competitors both mentally and physically and he adopted much of the course from the former Atlantic City Ocean Marathon, known locally as the “Round-the-Island-Swim.”

Once again will are welcoming all paddlers to come out and paddle in one of our many paddle classes and help raise much-needed funds for individuals battling cancer.

There are three WPA-sanctioned race divisions for standup paddleboards - men 14-foot stock, women 14-foot stock and open prone unlimited.

Other paddlers that are welcome in the open division will include outrigger canoes, race kayaks, surf skis and team’s consisting of two but no more than five paddlers in unlimited standup paddleboard.


The 22.5 mile race open division has a team relay. Relay racers must arrange their own support boats, please contact The DRCF for more info.


Check-in for the 22.5-mile solo and team relay races begin at 6:30 a.m. with the race to begin at 8 a.m.   

The 4-mile and 8-mile fun paddles will register 8:15-9:30 a.m. with race to begin at 10 a.m. 

The after party is at 4 p.m. at The Deck at Golden Nugget, entry is included with registration. After party admission is $25 for all others and includes food, entertainment and awards ceremony. 

The Paddle For A Cause is a charity event whose proceeds assist people who are battling cancer. In the event of race or fun paddle cancellation due to weather the funds raised and sponsorship donations are not refundable. 


Memorial Paddle Out
All are invited to join and paddle out on a surfboard, paddleboard or anything that floats or simply watch from the dock to help honor or pay tribute to a friend or loved one. The ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Golden Nugget Atlantic City, to be followed immediately by the start of the 8-mile race and 4-mile and 8-mile fun paddles. Honor Stones can be purchased on our website and will be cast into the water as part of the ceremony.

The Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation promotes cancer awareness and assists individuals battling cancer both emotionally and financially. To date, the foundation has raised more than $700,000 and donates 90 percent of its funds to individuals and organizations including the Ruth Newman Shapiro Cancer Fund, Shore Medical Center Cancer Center, Gilda’s Club of South Jersey and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Jersey Cape Regional Cancer Center and AtlantiCare Cancer Center.

The foundation was created in 2001 when Dean Randazzo, a professional surfer from Atlantic City, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes. Since successfully battling the disease four times, Dean continues his competitive professional surfing career, proudly representing the Garden State all over the world. The Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation is a New Jersey Non Profit and 501(c)(3) charitable organization and donations are tax deductible.
